Communication for entrepreneurs

Communication is no exception to this rule either: 2020 has given a boost to the digital transformation. Imposed on almost all companies, digital communication is becoming essential to exist. On the occasion of the global week dedicated to entrepreneurship, Les Déterminés welcomed Galo Diallo, founder of Smile Conseil, a communication agency specialized in influence and social media strategy. Back on this exceptional meeting... we kept the essential for you!

What is communication? Why do we communicate?

Being an entrepreneur is not only defined by the creation of a company, by the development of a project we have dreamed about... it is a commitment, a state of mind, a determination and communication plays an important role in this process: it allows to translate the dynamics of the entrepreneur, of his project but also of his journey. If the question "but what should I say?" comes up very often at the beginning when we think about our communication, it is important to understand that a strategy is necessary at this key moment.

Communication is a crucial need for a company. It serves us to give information. On the other hand, an entrepreneur who creates his project may think that good communication requires doing too much. This is a mistake! To establish a good communication, you must go to the essence! Don't beat about the bush, get straight to the point!

Here are several tips given by Galo Diallo, which will make you a determined entrepreneur who knows how to manage his communication.

Galo Diallo's 10 tips for good communication

  1. You have to be authentic. At the birth of a project, communicating means expressing what you want to say, because communicating to everyone means communicating to nobody!
  2. Have empathy! To understand the need, you have to put yourself in the customer's shoes and ask yourself the right questions: why might they be interested in my product or service? How can I arouse his interest while being myself, clear, concise, communicating in a direct way?
  3. Be more vigilant. The more we grow, the more our notoriety increases. Constantly monitor the market in order to map the important players in your field of activity.
  4. To communicate, you must have the desire to do so, but even more important is to define your communication objective.
  5. Favour video formats. Statistics prove it, nowadays, the basis of communication are dynamic formats: story-telling, information video, teaser, film...

6. Creating an identity. To become known around your brand, it is important to find your positioning and identify your target.

7. Each network has its own format and target. This advice seems obvious but difficult in practice. You have to adapt your content and understand the codes of each social network. Diversifying your content means increasing your audience.

8. Search for the amplifier qui va faire augmenter sa visibilité. Il peut s’agit d’un influenceur, d’une sponsorisation…

9. It is the project that creates the network and not the network that creates the project ! Know how to sell your project and create a story around it.

10. " At the beginning of entrepreneurship, you make waste, you must test techniques, ways, forms and study the returns, its data. " " If you don't test much, it's going to take you a very long time to find your identity and what will appeal." You don't have to be afraid of ridicule, the goal is to create continuous improvement."

In short, we can say that communication is at the heart of our society insofar as it highlights the values of the company. Knowing how to communicate is one of the skills to master. Let's remember that failures and obstacles will be on your way to success and that they are defined as stepping stones and not as obstacles.  Being an entrepreneur is not an end in itself, know-how is the mother of success!
